Puja at Kardmeshwar Temple

Worshiping at the Kardmeshwar Temple is very important. In and around Varanasi, there are many big and small temples dedicated to different gods and goddesses. Some of these temples are not only important for the large number of devotees they attract but also because they are very beautiful with intricate designs and sculptures made of stone. Many of them have stunning carvings and paintings on them.

The Kardameshvara Temple, which is believed to have been built in the 12th century, is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is thought to be the oldest surviving temple in Varanasi from an archaeological point of view.

• The Kasi Kedara mahatmya tells that Lord Kedareshwar kept his fifteen kalas in Kasi and he is in Kedareshwar only with his sixteenth kala.
• Kardmeshwar appeared in Kasi from the food made up of Green gram, kept as Naivedya to him, by the king Mandhata.
